Code of Conduct and Ethics
1. Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct and Ethics is to promote a respectful, inclusive, and lawful environment for all members of the London Amateur Radio Club. Members are expected to uphold the principles of amateur radio, act with integrity, and represent the club in a positive manner both on and off the air.
2. General Conduct
Members shall:
Treat all individuals with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for members, guests, and the public.
Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the Amateur Radio Service and the London Amateur Radio Club.
Avoid behaviour that is disruptive, intimidating, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or harassing.
3. On-Air Conduct
Members shall:
- Operate in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
Follow established amateur radio operating practices and band plans.
Use appropriate language and avoid offensive, profane, or inflammatory communications.
Respect the rights of other operators and avoid intentional interference.
Identify properly and honestly at all times.
4. Legal and Regulatory Compliance
Members shall:
Comply with all ISEDC regulations governing amateur radio operations.
Operate only within the privileges of their certificate level.
Avoid activities that could jeopardize the club’s standing, repeaters, or operating privileges.
5. Club Activities and Facilities
Members shall:
Use club equipment, repeaters, and facilities responsibly and for their intended purposes.
Follow all posted rules and operating guidelines.
Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or misuse promptly to the LARC Board.
Refrain from unauthorized modifications or use of club property.
6. Safety and Emergency Communications
Members shall:
Place safety and public welfare above all other considerations.
Follow established emergency communication procedures when participating in emergency or public service operations.
Avoid transmitting false, misleading, or unauthorized emergency traffic.
7. Ethical Standards
Members shall:
Act honestly and in good faith in all club-related matters.
Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them when they arise.
Respect the confidentiality of sensitive club information.
Refrain from using club affiliation for personal gain or misrepresentation.
8. Online and Social Media Conduct
Members shall:
Conduct themselves respectfully in online forums, email lists, and social media when representing the club.
Avoid posting content that could damage the reputation of the club or amateur radio.
Clearly distinguish personal opinions from official club positions.
9. Enforcement
Violations of this Code may result in corrective action, up to and including suspension or termination of membership, in accordance with the club’s bylaws.
Members shall have the right to fair consideration and due process as defined by club policies.
10. Acknowledgement
Membership in the London Amateur Radio Club constitutes agreement to abide by this Code of Conduct and Ethics.
