You will find that this site is a little "minimalist" for a few good reasons.
When surveyed, we found that a lot of our club members are still using dialup, therefore the amount of non content related inline graphic elements have been kept to a minimum so that the pages load reasonably fast..
A number of our members are vision impaired, so a simple layout and no frames makes it easier for them to use a screen reader.
A quite a few members are not "power web surfers" so you will find a lot more "click here" direction than on a lot of sites.
The other reasons that the design has been kept very simple with nothing other than vanilla html is so that anyone with minimal web development skills and a few readily available commercial and/or freeware tools can maintain the site, and it can be moved easily to another hosting site if necessary.
This site is entirely built with open source tools (free software) running on WindowsThe HTML pages are built with NVU. Images are cropped and sized with Paint.net . The pages are ftp uploaded to the site with Filezilla. LINUX could just as easily be used with similar open source tools.
You will find that most of the mail links on this site are graphics files, meaning you have to type the email address into your email program manually. This is to prevent "spammers" from harvesting the email addresses off this site.
I also found this article from the ARRL useful for preparing this site.
