Coming Event Schedule, Past Event Coverage and Pictures

LARC sponsors the following events and activities. The club season runs from September to the following June. See the event schedules below for coverage of past events and details on upcoming events. Note that coverage of many of the past events include pictures.

LARC Meetings

All meetings are located at St. Judes Anglican Church, 1537 Adelaide Street North at Fanshawe Park Road East in London, Ontario, (  Click here for a MAP ) on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm EST, September to June (no meetings July and August).

These meetings are open and there are no qualifications required to attend, LARC members, Non members, and anyone else who wants to know more about Amateur Radio is welcome to attend.

LARC Field Day

Field day is a group of local hams assembling portable stations at an outdoor location to simulate operation under emergency communications, and to communicate with as many other stations as possible to collect contest points in a 24 hour period, always The Fourth Full Weekend In June. Here is additional information on upcoming Field Days and coverage and pictures for past ones:

Field Day 2009 - Better than ever!

Dates: Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28.
Location: Reservoir Park at the top of Snake Hill in Byron
Events:
  -Antenna Installation, starting Saturday Morning
-Contest Time: Saturday 2PM to Sunday 2 PM
-Pot Luck Supper: Saturday around 6 PM
-chance to try your hand at HF - anytime!
-Locking of the gates - around 10PM on Saturday
Rules: Official Field Day Contest Rules from ARRL
Field Day Coordinator: Pat Ross

In the last couple of years, we've been getting pretty good scores in our category in the contest and we want to do even better. Help us out by signing up (or just showing up) for some time at a microphone, so we can get as many contacts as possible. No experience or advanced license necessary - after a couple of pointers, you'll soon be cranking out the contacts!

( and yes, we'll have a better shelter for the picnic tables this year,  but it's not going to rain anyway.)

LARC Flea Market

As well as an opportunity to pick up a few ham radio equipment bargains, you have the opportunity to rent a table and make a few dollars on those ham items you no longer need. Also a  great opportunity to have an "eye-ball" with local and out of town hams. Usually the 2nd last Sunday in September. Here is additional information on upcoming flea markets and coverage and pictures for past flea markets:

Ham of the Year

The 2008 Ham of The Year award was presented to Mark Bramwell VE3PZR, in recognition of his contributions as the Newsletter editor, Repeater Coordinator, and a volunteer examiner. Mark may now be referred to as a "HOTY".
